Get out of the City: Harry Potter Studio Tour

24/1/2018

I was very late to the party in regards to being obsessed with the wizarding world of Harry Potter. I had read the first two books and seen the first film many moons ago, but I never really put much effort into getting into it. I never disliked it, I just hadn't tried to get into it. I always seem to be late on the bandwagon of "hypes" - Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad etc. and I kick myself every time for it.

So a few years ago I found myself on trains between the North East and London on a regular basis, and I needed to kill those hours aboard the East Coast mainline trains - so I picked up my Harry Potter books again. And aren't I glad I did! I was HOOKED within the first few pages of the Philosopher's Stone. I read all of the books within a couple of months and then watched the films soon after; a perk of reading the books so late was that I never had to wait for the next one to come out!

Anyway, with my new found love for all things wizard-y and magical, there was a new place I wanted to go to. I had heard of people going to the Warner Bros. studio tour just north of London, and now I wanted to go more than ever. Lucky for me, a few of my friends were also interested so we got it booked. It was around £35 (might have changed now) for the ticket, and the train from Euston to Watford Junction only took about 25 minutes. The studio tour wasn't near the station, but a decorated "Harry Potter bus" picks up the hoards of muggles from the train station and carts them to the wizarding world; unfortunately it's not as exciting as throwing some floo powder but it does the job.

I'd highly recommend this if you're a Potter fan, in fact I'd recommend it even if you aren't - just to see the props and sets, and get such an insight into the films' creation is fascinating. I think even if I didn't know about Hogwarts and houses, I'd still have enjoyed it. I'd like to go back soon as a lot of things change there quite regularly and I feel like it's one of those places that if you go again, you'll see things you missed the first time around.

Below are some photos taken by my Slytherin self, click here if you want more info on the studio tour: https://www.wbstudiotour.co.uk/
